David Bernstein - FA ChairmanDavid Bernstein - FA ChairmanBernstein Swings Axe. Capello beheaded. Next England Manager?

The fallout from Terrygate rumbles on and we certainly didn't see this one coming. After years of fumbling around in the dark the Football Association has finally located its balls and put them to good use.

That's two big calls in a week. What is going on?

After the debacle of having Lord Triesman doing his best to steer the ship on to the rocks it looks as though the FA finally have someone with a firm hand on the tiller.

Graham Kelly is now but a distant memory.

David Bernstein is beginning to exert his influence on the madhouse that we call the FA.

By proclaiming in a TV interview in Italy that he didn't think Terry should have been stripped of the England captaincy, Capello was out of tune with the hymn being sung at the FA and as an employee he was told that he was out of order.

Capello would not back down and in a brief one hour meeting, agreement was made to sever his contract.

Bernstein is an accountant with sound business acumen and makes good decisions. He is credited with refinancing the Wembley stadium to ensure that the project didn't collapse and the resurrection of Manchester City which is some feat.

In his early career the controversial FCUK campaign was waged on his watch at fashion chain French Connection so he is no stranger to making big calls when he thinks it is in the business best interest.

So who will become the next England Manager?

One thing is for certain, this time the FA won't be running around like headless chickens or digging themselves into a financial hole.

Sports betting punters are putting all the money on Harry Redknapp now that he has extricted himself from a precarious position in the high court. He is the overall popular choice no doubt about that.

Daniel levy the Spurs chairman will be wanting maximum compensation for losing his influential manager at a crucial time in the season so there is scope for a temporary appointment between now and the season end before the Euro finals begin.

I think another foreign appointment is out of the question. Both Erikkson and Capello failed to strike the right note with the fans and under Capello the football was abysmal in the world cup finals when Kevin Keegan would have got more out of the squad just by showing up.

Mourinho would be avoided because of his penchant for arguing with his paymasters. Hiddink?

Sam Allardyce would be a good choice because of his use of modern coaching techniques and statistical analysis. Roy Hodgson? His disastrous spell at Liverpool counts against him and not just because of the brand of football he played but his failure to connect with the supporters.

I think you can be sure that Bernstein will make a good decision and there will be no one out of left field on the radar.

Redknapp wants the job, he is the fans choice, Spurs are flying high, the court case is over with – what's not to like?
